A nicely cut shirt dress can be both things an elegant and timeless piece but also an easy to style in a relaxed manner item. So what makes a perfect shirt dress?

The feminine cut.

I chose this Ted Baker dress as one of my items to add to the capsule wardrobe for multiple reasons.

  • the cut that is feminine
  • the material that is soft and gives a flowy effect giving the garment a more delicate look
  • Unusual for a shirt dress finish at the bottom which gives it more of an A-line shape that is feminine and flattering.

A shirt dress without a belt or with a straight cut can be harder to style.

The A-line shape

I love what Ted Baker has done with the traditional shape here, by adding a bit more material at the bottom, which creates a movent and more flattering feminine shape. It’s similar to A-shape dresses. At the same time, soft material beautifully moves when tied with the belt enhancing the waist.

All in the finishing detail of the handkerchief hem detail.

The delicate hem at the end of the sleeves, tiny bottoms and collar all make this it look more like a dress than a shirt. Those elements give it a classic and timeless style. This dress is from the current collection so you can still get yours here.
